What inspires us?

-Nicht überall, wo Wasser ist, sind auch Vögel, aber wo man Vögel hört ist Wasser.-

That inspires us.

People.

A project like ours is not possible without the help of others. Since the beginning of our idea, many people around us have been accompanying, supporting and cheering on our venture. Our oldest supporter is grandma Donabaum, who at the age of 82 is mainly involved in the vineyard.

Biodiversity.

Diversity plays a major role in our life. We promote and support it wherever possible. Not least, our steep and barren vine terraces on both sides of the Danube are home to many different animal and plant species.

Handicraft.

We are no fans of big machines and therefore rely on handwork and old techniques. For us, old techniques do not stand for tradition. Rather, many of our ideas and approaches have come with us to the Wachau from completely different regions of the world.

Founding a "winery" without owning a single vineyard certainly requires a fair amount of idealism. This ideal includes old wine-growing equipment, single pole vines in our steepest vineyards, biodynamic cultivation and little intervention in the vinification process, as well as the use of wooden barrels in the wine cellar.

"Life is much more colourful than you think."

Our wines are produced pure and without a lot of frills, we use neither yeast nor other additives. Carefully selected grapes are gently pressed, most of them are put into used Burgundy barrels and get a lot of time.

The laurels.

The end results are creamy cuvées, Rhône-like Veltliners and long-lived Rieslings. The process in the cellar is as decelerated as our wines. That's why we place great emphasis on bottle ageing. When our full-bodied wines are sold, they are like a pair of tailor-made shoes, the older the more supple.
